Why start blogging now?

So the short answer to that question is, I really want to push myself to participate in the One Room Challenge starting in April and I feel the only way to keep myself accountable is to stick to the challenge goal of posting a blog entry about the project every week.

The long answer is, I am not entirely new to blogging. Back in 2013 when I was on maternity leave (I was working as a business consultant for Deloitte) I started hobby blogging under the name/brand Conflicted Pixie. I was all over the place on topics but interiors and home decor products popped up a lot. Nothing was monetized but it was a positive creative outlet for me while I was on leave from my job. I continued to post blog content over the years as it related to Conflicted Pixie which had quickly turned into a handmade brand making/selling kids play tents, jewelry, small frames and then opening a brick and mortar studio in NC to grow a wholesale business, host workshops and support other artisans.

It’s funny and a bit ironic, as I think back on the time in that studio, my favorite part…of all of the great parts…was imagining what the space could be and then creating it. After pulling up carpet and what felt like a million staples and adding gallons of white paint to the walls and floors, we (DIY is better when family and friends are on board!) created a dreamy space I got to call my office for 2 years.

Fast forward to now, Conflicted Pixie still exists but I have scaled back the offerings to just DIY Necklace Making Craft Kits (shameless plug…they are so much fun to make!) which will give me time to focus on creating content for New Home Old Soul while helping local friends (and soon to be friends) with design and renovation projects.

I recently archived all of that old blog content as I prepared to redirect www.conflictedpixie.com to my Etsy page and use this existing site template for New Home Old Soul and I was laughing about some of the content I posted back in 2013/14. I know you’ll get a laugh at these throwbacks too…

Monday Musts was a feature I pretty consistently posted, I loved creating budget friendly round-ups and mocking up different rooms like the ‘Modern Office’ below.

Apparently I was talking ‘Shelfies’ back in 2013 and loved a good High/Low comparison. I even tried my hand at fashion blogging with Oscar Superlatives and some posing. I think that owl dress was the only piece I was ever gifted. Stop laughing.

If you are reading this, thanks! I hope this go-round at blogging will bring more original content from design projects inside (and hopefully outside) my home and less random round-ups of baskets (I still love baskets, tho).
